Job Description/ Duties:

AMSA, Inc. is seeking a full time experienced Senior Organic Analytical Development Scientist to join our R&D team in Midland/Auburn, MI. Experience should be in R&D with strong bench, experimental design, and execution of experiments positive track record gained in a real world manufacturing setting preferably in an organic chemical manufacturing company.

Any and all AMSA personnel are multi-tasking, and operate well in a cross-discipline work setting, while being completely self-directed.

The scientist will be responsible for leading all organic analytical activities in support of organic chemical synthesis & chemical process optimizations, product line extensions, and product development employing hplc, ion chromatography, gas chromatography equipped with various detectors, hand held photometers used in outside-of lab environments.

Any and all polymer analysis/characterizations experience, specifically, gpc/sec, would be ideal.  Experience in metal corrosion testing or product physical testing methods would be also be ideal.

Most desirable would be for the candidate to have experience in microbiology and/or industrial cooling water treatment technology.


Compensation & Benefits:

Base compensation:  $50,000 – $65,000 depending on experience.

Bonus plans: offered based on documented performance.

Senior Scientist Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Provide analytical leadership and testing to support ongoing development, product release, product formulation stability studies, including experimental design, and accelerated quality control testing methods as needed.

Design, execute and analyze studies to develop and qualify test methods, demonstrate technological feasibility and characterize material and assembled device products, employing multiple analytical methods (e.g. FTIR, mechanical hardness testing, viscosity, surface tension, and material stress/strain characteristics).

The scientist will be responsible for leading all organic analytical activities in support of organic chemical synthesis & chemical process optimizations, product line extensions, and product development employing hplc, ion chromatography, gas chromatography equipped with various detectors, and hand held photometers used in outside-of lab environments.

Execute test methods in support of device Process Development and Quality activities.

Troubleshoot, optimize, and trend assay performance.

Establish design criteria using Design of Experiments (DOE) and other contemporary development tools.

Perform sufficient statistical analysis to establish specificity, sensitivity, linear range, precision and accuracy of test methods.

Maintain analytical lab instrumentation, manage lab reagents, and ensure appropriate preventative maintenance and calibration is carried out.

Generate and Maintain excellent written documentation (e.g. lab notebook and test forms).

 

Scientific Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry minimum requirement.

Chemical engineering and/or microbiology experience would be ideal.

Masters and/or Ph.D. degree in organic analytical, and/or organic synthesis or related experience with 7 – 10 years of relevant development experience in industry.

Must have a thorough, demonstrated, understanding of modern analytical and spectroscopic techniques, and must possess the ability to interpret the corresponding data and spectra. Have sufficient statistical analysis know-how and experience to establish specificity, sensitivity, linear range, precision and accuracy of test methods.

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively both in verbal and written forms in an inter-disciplinary environments is mandatory, and a most fundamental qualification.
  • Implement and communicate tactics to determine timelines for delivering results.
  • Work in a team environment, and provide training and guidance to laboratory personnel.

Problem solving and trouble shooting and the on-hands skill that is required in the multi-tasking AMSA, Inc. culture is a fundamental required qualification. A good command of data presentation and data analysis skills using Excel, and related programs, is essential.

Excellent command of computer skills is essential.

Language skills and international background most welcome.
